Samuel Beckett Is Coming Soon… was a labor of love from the beginning. I went to see Anthony Arkin perform on stage in Tallahassee Florida, and in our spare time we came up with a filmed improvisational piece about two down and out actors. We named the short “An Actor Despairs.” When I came up North I wrote a larger script based on the work Tony Arkin and I did in Florida. He then showed it to his father and the rest was history. Alan was looking for a short piece to direct. Kimberly Williams was added to the cast. Kim’s scenes with Tony A. were actually improvised between the two of them. Alan cast the young boy in the film right from an audition he held in Tallahassee. Thomas Kennedy came up from his home further south, and did the crying clown for us. It was very hard to keep a straight face the whole time he was crying. This short film was my first real attempt at writing a film script of any kind.
